Trampled by Turtles to Perform at Riverside Theater

Progressive bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles is set to perform at Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater on January 12, 2018.

Over the last 15 years, Trampled by Turtles has become a phenomonenon with a cult-like following with their own unique take on progressive bluegrass. They have a signature blend of rock, folk, punk, and country. Though their tunes are musically upbeat, frontman Dave Simonett provides poignant, deeply expressive, and sometimes gut-wrenching lyrics. This combination is capable of providing a live show that is emotional and powerful enough to transfer the energy from the stage to the crowd.

The band returned with new music for the first time in four years with Life Is Good On the Open Road. The Minnesota sextet began the album last year in a cabin during the same time as the Las Vegas shooting and Tom Petty’s passing. The group bonded over the tragedy and the loss of one of their biggest musical influences. They were able to draw enough influence to create 12 songs that span from tender ballads to driving boot-stompers.

Trampled by Turtles hit the road this year in what has become their most successful year yet —including a record-breaking show with over 10,000 people in attendance at Bayfront Festival Park in their hometown of Duluth, Minnesota. They have also had a sold-out performance with nearly 15,000 at the Minnesota State Fair, and sold out multiple nights in venues in major cities like Seattle, D.C., Nashville, and Chicago.

Billboard, Paste, and No Depression are just a few who have praised Life Is Good On the Open Road. Rolling Stone Country said, “It balances both delicate ballads and loose, upbeat romps, with frontman Dave Simonett’s strident voice connecting the dots.”

My Never Ending Nightmare

The Feeding

A dusty fan circulated across the room from one end to the other. It’s been a while since Augustus put it to use, so he couldn’t blame the junk for its inability to remember its single duty. Arkansas hasn’t had a summer night like this since he was a child. He lay in his damp […]

Gin Star Drinking

Today is for you. Wanna go away? I was thinking Bombay, Gin star drinking, they now say Mumbai. London dry, Wear a white tie, Leave me tongue tied. In the blink of an eye, We’re eating Boston cream pies, On the Fourth of July. This isn’t easy to come by, So overbuy Eau de vie, […]

I Was Lying in the Sun

I was lying in the sun, Near juniper shrubs and storybook villas. Not enough profit and pleasure in the telling of, The tapping of a cigarette, The brush of bare knees, A long draught of wine, Closing the shutters on balconies, With blinds made of lace at Angel’s Bay. Red watermelon hues. I’ve read […]
