i am a body of water

i am a body of water

a child of the port

born under the sun

the scent of the ocean

always lingering

i am a body of water

the same stream

my ancestors used to wash their bodies

rinse their hands

give them life

i am a body of water

others may make a home of me

explore me & enjoy me

but i always hold the sovereignty

the power

i am a body of water

glistening & reflecting

mirroring my surroundings

beautiful

even when things around me are not

i am a body of water

more than meets the eye

an abundance

just below the surface

hidden in plain sight

i am a body of water

full & deep

so overwhelming

sometimes

i even drown in myself

i am a body of water

essential

vast

incomparable

everything

My Never Ending Nightmare

The Feeding

A dusty fan circulated across the room from one end to the other. It’s been a while since Augustus put it to use, so he couldn’t blame the junk for its inability to remember its single duty. Arkansas hasn’t had a summer night like this since he was a child. He lay in his damp […]

Rockefeller

I put on your sweater and chew on the strings and you call, just like you said you would and I’m happy, I mute the tv, just to hear you clearer and you ask how I am, I could always do better, but I’m rich. In the winter of my life, I found a summer […]

I Was Lying in the Sun

I was lying in the sun, Near juniper shrubs and storybook villas. Not enough profit and pleasure in the telling of, The tapping of a cigarette, The brush of bare knees, A long draught of wine, Closing the shutters on balconies, With blinds made of lace at Angel’s Bay. Red watermelon hues. I’ve read […]
