Haikus

Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Madison Goldbeck

This comes easily
It’s like a summer heaven
Your attention is sugar

You in the Porsche
Illinois Route 21
Never felt so pure

My man can’t deny
Lilacs at my fingertips
Diamonds can get old

Chase me all over
Meet me downtown Milwaukee
Cranberry chasers

I taste my feelings
You see I’m a real poet
You’re my appetite

Spilling my guts to
my therapist Is the sole
acceptance I count

I threw back whisky
Sitting in an airport bar
I hate dark liquor

I’m ethereal
You will cost a suicide
To love is to die

Untangle this web
For a wrong turn with struggle
Could cause us trouble

Babe I’m all alone
Visit me in Juneau Town
You wouldn’t. Said no.

She sent him her dreams
He wondered what its about
Men are fucking blind

I get so lonely
I don’t have X-rated dreams
Its reality

My Never Ending Nightmare

The Feeding

A dusty fan circulated across the room from one end to the other. It’s been a while since Augustus put it to use, so he couldn’t blame the junk for its inability to remember its single duty. Arkansas hasn’t had a summer night like this since he was a child. He lay in his damp […]

Did he cross the dry Sierras?

Did he cross the dry Sierras to shape a fable Paris? How blue it is, the end of hilltops. The colonists are realtors, with fuel pumps against the sun. With a shade in the eye, no thrones to weight and poems to speak. Darker than Vesuvius, a dearth of Caruso. Yes, there is something […]

I Was Lying in the Sun

I was lying in the sun, Near juniper shrubs and storybook villas. Not enough profit and pleasure in the telling of, The tapping of a cigarette, The brush of bare knees, A long draught of wine, Closing the shutters on balconies, With blinds made of lace at Angel’s Bay. Red watermelon hues. I’ve read […]
